Top 5 Brunch spots in Mechelen

In Eating Out, Europe, Go exploring

I have a confession to make, brunch is my favorite meal…. EVER. Leisurely waking up, strolling to a nearby café and reading the paper or catching up with friends all the while indulging in great food. This sounds like my perfect Sunday right there!
Mechelen is certainly not missing quality spots for brunch. Here are my five favorite spots.
Note: The spots are in a random order, all five of them are great and most definitely worth checking out.

  1. Bar Botanica: Get your juice and smoothie fix

This place was opened recently in Mechelen and is conveniently nestled just off the main square. It’s small but if you are lucky you can snag a table outside and enjoy the sunshine and some prime people watching. When I am craving a good smoothie bowl and a kombucha this is my go to place.

Exciting news, they have also recently started serving Acai Bowls (yassss!)

Opening hours: Tuesday to Friday: 08.00-16.00 // Saturday 09.00-16.00
Address: Frederik de Merodestraat 3 2800 Mechelen

  1. Sister Bean: Great Coffee and a little bit of everything on offer.

Sister Bean has been around in Mechelen for a couple of years and is a very popular spot for breakfast or lunch. I love their many varieties of coffee (with the option of plantbased milk) and have been known to indulge in the blueberry pancakes once in a while. If pancakes are not your thing, don’t fret there are plenty of other delicious offers like avo toast (always a winner), oatmeal, eggs.

Tip: On the weekend they do an all you can eat brunch which is definitely worth getting out of bed for. It runs from 09.00 to 14.30 and costs 20€ a person.

Opening hours: Monday to Friday: 08.00-17.00 // Saturday & Sunday: 09.00-17.00
Closed on Wednesday
Address: Vismarkt 26, 2800 Mechelen

  1. Noen: Trendy interior and no nonsense brunch

Another great pick for brunch is a little place called “Noen”. All the food is handmade, and so is the interior! This place has a more traditional take on brunch (eggs, bread, yoghurt, fruit) with impeccable ingredients and a really fun vibe. A (luxury) brunch for 2 people costs around 33€ and will leave you filled and ready to go explore the city.

Tip: These guys also have their own homemade ice cream (EISKREEM) which is great for a hot summers day.

Opening hours: Tuesday to Friday 09.00-16.00// Saturday 09.00-18.00
Address: Leermarkt 24 2800 Mechelen

  1. Frutsi: Brunch before a day of shopping

This place is conveniently located on the main shopping street on Mechelen, the Bruul. They offer a wide variety of different smoothies and juices as well as different types of salads and sandwiches. What I like is the option to create your own granola and their acai bowls (now we are talking). In addition, they double as a (small) store, if you are in the market for some quality food products this is a good place to go.

Opening hours: Monday to Friday 08.00- 17.30 // Saturday 09.00-18.00
Address: Bruul 87, 2800 Mechelen

  1. Foom: Come for brunch, end up staying for high tea

This little gem is located on the backside of the St Rumbold’s cathedral. You might need to ask google maps to help you find this spot. I stumbled across in by accident one day on my way to visit a friend, and the rest is history. I usually come here to indulge in their high tea which is served from Wednesday to Saturday between 15.00 and 17.00 and on Sunday between 14.30 and 16.30. Make sure to reserve for High Tea as spaces are limited.

Tip: These guys also do a special Sunday brunch. It runs from 09.00 until 14.00 and costs 21€ per person. It includes breads, fruit, granola, wraps, pancakes…enough to feed an army really. They also cater to gluten and lactose intolerance, if you let the team know in advance!

Opening hours: Wednesday to Friday 08.30 -17.00; Saturday 09.00-17.00; Sunday 09.00-16.30
Address: Sint – Katelijnestraat 2, 2800 Mechelen
